Gopher64 for Android has the same built-in P2P netplay and the same lobby as the PC version. The Gopher64 server only handles the lobby and NAT traversal, so no port forwarding is needed. Up to 4 players, delay-based (no rollback). The Android port is new (first released May 2026), and the developer is still improving device compatibility.
Requirements
- Android 13 or newer and a fairly powerful device. Adreno 6xx GPUs are not supported.
- Everyone on the latest Gopher64 release (your version is sent to the lobby).
- The exact same ROM file for every player (the ROM is hashed).
- A Bluetooth or USB controller is recommended. A touch controller exists since v1.1.38.

- Install Gopher64 from Google Play, or download
gopher64-android.apkfrom the latest release. - Set up your controller in
Controller Configand test the game inLocal Gamefirst.

Select ROM. - Tap
Create Sessionand share the session name (and password). - In the waiting room, pick a
Local Input Delay(a recommended value is shown). - When the button changes from
Waiting for P2P meshtoStart Game, tap it.
Join a session
- Open
Netplay>Join Session. - Enter your player name (and password, if any), tap
Select ROMand pick the same ROM. - Tap
Refresh Session List, tap the session, thenJoin Session. - Wait until player 1 starts the game.
Player 1's save files, cheats and settings are copied to everyone.
Troubleshooting
- Freezes or stutter: the input delay is too low. Player 1 sets it in the waiting room (or with
Alt+[/Alt+]on a keyboard). Only player 1 can change it. - Choppy for everyone: a device can't keep full speed. Lower the upscaling, close background apps, keep the phone cool and plugged in.
Still connecting to netplay peers...: NAT traversal is still running, so wait. Gopher64 falls back to a TURN relay if needed.- Can't see or join a session: check that everyone has the same Gopher64 version and ROM.
